What are Priorities…
Stress can wear you down and stop your productivity completely if you have a tendency to get overwhelmed when you’re presented with a list of tasks. A great way to relieve that stress is to set your priorities when youre making your to do list. A priority is a task or item in your life that is regarded as being of the upmost importance. Today we’re going to talk about how you can set your priorities and focus on what really matters in your life.
Setting your priorities is an important step so you don’t feel overwhelmed and stressed. Over stressing yourself can cause major mental and physical health concerns. By concentrating on finishing your priorities, you can change the amount of tasks that are completed, the guilt you feel when tasks do not get done, and the speed in which you complete your long term goals.
How to Decide on Priorities
A great way to decide on your top priorities is use a diagram called the Eisenhower matrix. This will help you to divide up your tasks and help you to decide if that task is important or if you’re able to forget about it all together.
This method was developed by President Dwight Eisenhower himself. He develop this method to help prioritize and deal with many high stakes issues he faced throughout his long-term defense and political career. This matrix system will help you as well, to balance and uncomplicated your life. This relieves your stresses by letting certain tasks go while concentrating on the very important tasks you need to complete.
Describing Diagram
This matrix is divided into four sections, urgent tasks, non urgent tasks, important tasks and not important tasks. All tasks will be put into one of these four sections. If the task is urgent and important, it should be set to be done first, right away. If the task is not urgent but important, then it’s set to be scheduled into your calendar to be done very soon. If the task is urgent but not important, then the task is to be delegated out to someone else. You shouldn’t do this task yourself, it’s not important to be done by yourself. If the task is not urgent and not important, then its deleted from your life, schedule and your worries. This task should not be done at all.
How to use diagram
Start your prioritization journey by listing out all of your tasks. Don’t take too long with this step. It’s seems tempting to try to list everything that you will need to do, which causes you to waste lots of time working on an endless to do list. This list will be added onto over time. It’s important for you to cover the items that are pressing on your mind to help relieve stress and worry from your life.
Next, go through each item and place it into a single section of the matrix. This will help you to decide which items need to be done first, second or not at all.
Then work through your top priorities until they are completed.
Next move onto other items that are not top priority.
